Responsibilites

Kelsang Gyaltsen & Lodi G. Gyari

The main responsibility of the Envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Europe is to facilitate negotiations between the Tibetan Government in Exile and the People’s Republic of China. With this aim he seeks to inform, impress and solicit support from the European countries for the Middle Way Approach of H. H. the Dalai Lama to resolve the issue of Tibet peacefully.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has made clear that he is not seeking the separation or independence of Tibet. His Holiness is striving for genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people within the People’s Republic of China.

The Envoy is one of the two senior Tibetan officials entrusted by His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the task of conducting the dialogue with the representatives of the Chinese government. Since 2002 the envoys of H. H. the Dalai Lama held eight rounds of talks and one informal meeting with the representatives of the Chinese leadership. The Envoy is also a member of the Tibetan Task Force on Negotiations.

In the capacity as the Envoy of H. H. the Dalai Lama, he also gives talks and interviews on Tibet with the aim of highlighting the tragedy of the Tibetan people. Organizations, institutions or the press interested in interacting with the Envoy of H. H. the Dalai Lama are asked to contact Mr. Tenzin D. Sewo, Special Assistant to the Envoy at tsewo(at)dalailama.com.
